AICE Media Studies: Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
For our music video, our group made a storyboard conveying the plans for the video. It details a step-by-step breakdown on how a video would play. The first scene starts with an opening shot on the ocean. It then shifts to the right to one of the actors. The actor then sings the start of the song. The camera moves closer as the actor continues singing. It then cuts to a back angle of the actor as they walk away from the camera along the beach. The camera then cuts to the bottom of a big tree. The camera moves up the tree all the way to the top. At the top, another actor is sitting on a branch while singing the lyrics again. After singing for awhile, the camera cuts to black. The camera then shows both actors sitting next to each other on the beach. They both sing more lyrics. The camera then cuts to a front view of the actors. Both are singing. The last scene has the video move up. It then gets a clear shot of the sky and fades to black. This storyboard should be an accurate repr...

AICE media studies: Planning for my Music Video

Planning: Props and Costumes: For our music video, we are planning to have a few props. This would include attire that represents the theme of the music video. We would wear beachy clothing, which includes loose clothing, tank tops, and t-shirts. Along with that, we would have shorts and swimming wear. For props, we may have a ball of some type, either a volleyball or beachball. We may also have a net or frisbee, depending on the weather conditions.  Song Title: Our title be simple named, "Riptide by Vance Joy Music Video Remix". Schedule:  On 11/16/20, me and my partner researched codes and conventions of music videos and information on Vance Joy's song Riptide. On 11/17/20, me and my partner planned out our schedule for our music video. We also decided our props, costumes, location list, and a back-up plan.  On 11/20/20, me and my partner will create a storyboard for our music video. On 11/27/20-11/30/20, me and my partner will film our music video. The days are stretch...

AICE media studies Research blog: Music Video Conventions

This music video is fairly different from most of today's music videos and even then. This video is 7 years old, which means it was posted in 2013. Things were different in 2013 and therefore the way things have been done in the music industry were different. This entire video is the singer and writer of the song, Vance Joy next to a beautiful spot by the beach. He had a guitar and sang in the video without overlaying the edited and already released song. Sort of like an acoustic version you see. Although I'd love nothing more than to sing with my horrible pitch and vocal control. It'd be best if me and my partner stuck to overlaying the music rather than to sing it ourselves. As for the setting, a beach setting would be a nice fit which ties into the riptide theme and water. But I'll save that for the planning vlog. Along with the setting of the music, we need to figure out what kind of music it is and what emotions and vibrations it gives in order to make a music vid...

AICE media studies: Music Video Intro Blog

The person I chose to work with is another student in this class, Joseph Gonzalez. He also takes media studies and I've known him for a long time. In fact we went through all of elementary school and middle school as more or less best friends. We had a mini falling out near the end of last year and the beginning for this year. But I don't put that on him, especially because of all this that's going on. Anyway everything between us is fine. And even if it was not, I'd still trust his ability to work hard on anything he does. So it only makes sense that we partner up together and do this because I can trust him to do his part well and efficiently. As for the music video, the song we both agreed with was Riptide by Vance Joy. To be completely honest, I like this song but my partner was OBSESSED with it for many months. He doesn't play it around our friends as much anymore but it was a widely liked song and he suggested it. Plus I had no other options to provide anyway...

AICE media studies: Filming Blog

A lot happened during this film process, I went to 2 different locations for these scenes as well. Things don't always go as planned either. One thing that really messed me up was realizing I didn't have anything to stand my phone camera on so I made a tripod thingy out of a big stand from a karaoke machine and a tiny three legged stand from a lawn ornament and just duct taped them together. It worked well enough for me to get my shots. But I also had to use a dollar bill I folded a couple times, to put behind the phone in order to get lower angles from higher above since the makeshift tripod couldn't go as low as I needed. Along with that I had to adapt and change locations for one of my scenes because the area was flooded with rain water.
